Nomura has agreed to acquire Macquarie Asset Management’s North American and European public asset management business (including equities, fixed income and multi‑asset strategies) in an all‑cash transaction for roughly US$1.8 billion, subject to closing adjustments and regulatory approvals. The business—led from Philadelphia with more than 700 employees and approximately US$180 billion of AUM—will join Nomura’s Investment Management division, and the firms will also enter a broader product and distribution collaboration.

Macquarie Asset Management-led consortium to acquire further 20% stake in National Gas

A consortium led by Macquarie Asset Management has agreed to acquire an additional 20% equity interest in National Gas from National Grid, taking the consortium's total ownership to 80%. The deal, on equivalent terms to the original January 2023 transaction, is subject to regulatory clearance and is expected to complete in the second half of 2023; the consortium also holds an option to acquire the remaining 20% between May and July 2024.

Macquarie Asset Management Acquires Remaining 20% of National Gas

Macquarie Asset Management, via a consortium of its managed equity and funds, has exercised its option to acquire the remaining 20% equity stake in National Gas from National Grid, giving the consortium 100% ownership. The move secures full control to support National Gas’s operation of the UK gas transmission network and accelerate future initiatives such as hydrogen network development and other decarbonisation projects.

Macquarie Asset Management Acquires Minority Stake in Best in Parking AG

Macquarie Asset Management, via Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 7, has agreed to acquire a significant minority stake in Best in Parking AG, a Vienna-based developer, owner and operator of parking and mobility infrastructure across Central and Southeast Europe. The investment will support Best in Parking’s rollout of EV charging (targeting ~1,000 chargers by 2025), digital solutions and further site expansion; the Breiteneder family (through Breiteneder Immobilien Parking AG) will retain the majority stake. The transaction was expected to close by Q3 2023 and terms were not disclosed.

Macquarie Asset Management Acquires Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc.

Concurrently, Macquarie sold Waddell & Reed's wealth management platform to LPL Financial, and the firms entered a long-term strategic partnership.

North Square Investments Acquires Majority Interest in C.S. McKee

North Square Investments has agreed to acquire a majority interest in C.S. McKee L.P., a Pittsburgh-based institutional investment manager with over $8 billion in assets under management. The deal (subject to closing conditions) will position McKee as an independent affiliate within North Square's multi-boutique platform, expand employee equity ownership, and provide product development, distribution and administrative support to accelerate growth across institutional and retail channels.
