Insurance Acquisitions in Canada

Axis Insurance Managers Inc. (Axis) announced the acquisition of Treasures Insurance Edmonton Inc. to expand its footprint in Alberta and strengthen its ability to deliver insurance brokerage and advisory services across Canada. Treasures Insurance Edmonton adds personalized commercial and personal insurance capabilities to Axis’s national, full-service brokerage platform.

Axis Insurance completed the acquisitions of Edgewater Financial Group and Kearns Edgewater Financial Services, and also purchased the Group Benefits portfolio from Kearns Insurance Corporation. The deals expand Axis Insurance’s national presence and strengthen its capabilities across insurance, benefits, and wealth solutions.

Definity Financial Corporation completed the acquisition of the personal insurance business and the majority of the commercial insurance business (excluding surety) of The Travelers Companies, Inc.’s Canadian operations. The transaction expands Definity’s scale and distribution in the Canadian property and casualty market and is expected to increase combined annual premiums to approximately $6 billion.

Beneva and Gore Mutual completed their merger effective January 1, 2026, after first announcing the planned transaction in January 2025 and obtaining required member, legislative, and regulatory approvals (including the Competition Bureau). Over the next year, Gore Mutual will combine operations with Beneva’s Ontario subsidiary Unica while continuing to operate separately during the transition, and is expected to ultimately operate as a standalone subsidiary under the Beneva brand.

SIB Corp. acquired Coreservice Insurance Brokers Inc., a full-service personal and commercial insurance brokerage based in North York, Ontario. The deal expands SIB’s presence in the Greater Toronto Area, with Coreservice leaders Kevin Choi and Halim Lee expected to remain in leadership during a gradual transition.

HGGC, a Palo Alto-based private equity firm, acquired Sterling Brokers, a Canadian benefits brokerage and third-party administrator, in a private transaction with undisclosed terms. The deal represents an exit for True Wind Capital, which first invested in Sterling in 2022; Carlyle Direct Lending and Northleaf Capital Partners provided debt financing for HGGC’s investment.

Westland Insurance announced it acquired Beneficial Insurance Solutions (BIS), effective October 1, 2025. Calgary-based BIS is a legacy insurance brokerage offering personal, commercial, life, and benefits insurance services, and the deal supports Westland’s strategy to deepen its presence in Alberta.

Acera Insurance Services Ltd. announced a partnership with Merit Insurance Services Ltd., an Edmonton-based insurance brokerage specializing in home and auto insurance. The deal, which closed on Sept. 1, 2025, is intended to support Merit’s growth into expanded personal lines as well as commercial insurance and employee group benefits while maintaining its independence and Canadian ownership.

Westland Insurance Group Ltd., one of Canada’s largest insurance brokerages, acquired Paul Ayotte Insurance Brokers Ltd. (PAIB) effective August 1, 2025. The acquisition expands Westland’s presence in Ontario—particularly Northern Ontario—and strengthens its national property and casualty (P&C) brokerage capabilities. PAIB, founded in 1975, operates five offices and provides personal and commercial insurance including auto, home, business, cottage, and leisure lines.

Westland Insurance announced it acquired Forefront Insurance Inc., effective July 1, 2025. Forefront is a Brooks, Alberta-based insurance brokerage offering personal and commercial lines (including auto, home, farm/ranch, and recreational vehicle coverage). The acquisition supports Westland’s strategy to expand its national distribution footprint across Canada through strategic M&A.

Oracle Insurance Risk Management Services Inc. (Oracle RMS), a Canadian commercial and personal lines insurance brokerage, finalized a strategic investment from private equity firm Abry Partners. Oracle RMS’s leadership team will retain significant equity ownership and continue to lead the business, with the new partnership intended to support expansion across Canada and fund future strategic M&A.

Zurich Insurance Group has successfully acquired Toronto-based insurtech BOXX Insurance Inc., a global cyber insurance and risk-management provider. BOXX will be integrated into Zurich Global Ventures to strengthen Zurich’s retail and SME cyber insurance and services offering globally, while continuing to operate under the BOXX brand.

Axis Insurance Managers Inc. announced that J.T. Insurance Services (Canada), Inc. has joined the firm, expanding Axis’s brokerage operations and deepening capabilities in real estate, construction, and high-net-worth client segments. JT Insurance owners James and Sheri Clay will continue in key leadership roles as the team integrates into Axis under a newly established Commercial Insurance Practice Group.

The Westaim Corporation made a US$350 million capital contribution to Salem Group Partners, LP following a draw down notice under the partnership’s limited partnership agreement. The proceeds are intended to fund the operations and launch preparation of Ceres Life Insurance Company, a cloud-native annuity insurance platform.

Hub International Limited acquired Drayton Valley Insurance Agency, Ltd., an independent personal and commercial insurance firm. The acquired business will operate as Drayton Valley Insurance Agency, a Hub International company, and owner Dale Jones and the team will join Hub Prairies. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Westland Insurance, a Canadian independent insurance brokerage, acquired Saskatchewan-based Loewen Agencies Ltd., effective March 1, 2025. The acquisition expands Westland into the Radville, Ceylon, and Minton communities and integrates Loewen Agencies into Westland’s operations while maintaining service continuity and expanding product access for clients.

Axis Insurance Managers Inc. (Axis Insurance) has acquired Fuse Insurance, a Calgary-based, technology-driven commercial insurance brokerage founded in 2017. The deal expands Axis Insurance’s presence in Alberta and adds Fuse’s digital commercial brokerage capabilities and expertise in managing complex industry risks.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. announced the acquisition of Encore Insurance Services Inc., doing business as Encore Group, a retail insurance brokerage firm based in Waterloo, Ontario. Financial terms were not disclosed. Encore’s team will remain in place and operate under Gallagher’s Canadian retail property/casualty brokerage leadership.

Novacap announced a strategic partnership and investment in Consilium Insurance, a Montreal-based property & casualty insurance brokerage specializing in commercial and personal lines. The partnership is intended to accelerate Consilium’s growth and expand its operations across Canada to build a national platform in damage insurance brokerage. Consilium becomes the seventh platform investment in Novacap’s Financial Services I fund.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. announced the acquisition of Dawson & Keenan Insurance Ltd, a retail insurance brokerage based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Financial terms were not disclosed, and Dawson & Keenan’s team will remain in place under Gallagher’s Canadian retail property/casualty brokerage leadership.

SIB Corp. entered into a partnership with Donbar Agency Limited operating as Crossroads Insurance, expanding SIB’s presence in Manitoba. Crossroads Insurance is a Winnipeg-based full-service insurance brokerage operating from two locations, and it will now be part of SIB while maintaining its independent-brokerage identity.

Hub International Limited acquired Global Ag Risk Solutions Corp. and Global Ag Weather Solutions Corp. (collectively known as Parametric Ag). The Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan-based business provides whole-farm insurance solutions, including parametric products and weather modeling technology, expanding Hub’s agribusiness risk and insurance capabilities. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Axis Insurance Managers Inc. acquired Baker Insurance Ltd., a Calgary-based property and casualty insurance brokerage, to strengthen its regional presence and enhance its risk management capabilities. Baker Insurance (founded in 1976 and rebranded after Ed Baker’s 2006 acquisition) is known for managing complex risks and providing services such as risk assessments, claims management, operational reviews, surety bonds, and inland marine coverage. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Axis Insurance Managers Inc. (Axis Insurance) has acquired the O'Neill Group, an employee group benefits, life insurance, and wealth advisory firm based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Following the transaction, O'Neill Group will operate as a practice group within Axis Insurance, expanding Axis’s employee benefits and wealth advisory capabilities.

Hub International Limited (Hub) has acquired Felton et Associes Assurances Inc., an insurance firm providing commercial and personal insurance services. Felton et Associes, based in Brossard, Quebec, will strengthen Hub’s specialty practices, and President Maxime Felton and the team will join Hub Quebec. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Westland Insurance has acquired Alberta-based F.A. Smith Insurance Service Ltd., effective August 1, 2024. The acquisition expands Westland’s footprint in Alberta and enhances its ability to serve clients in Fort Saskatchewan, Lamont, and Smoky Lake. F.A. Smith is a family-owned property & casualty brokerage focused on home, auto, farm, and business insurance.

Hub International Limited acquired 2837932 Ontario Inc. from Bradley Beer to expand its commercial and personal insurance capabilities. The acquired business, based in London, Ontario, will have Bradley Beer and his team join Hub Ontario; transaction terms were not disclosed.

Westland Insurance announced it has acquired Alberta Best Insurance Ltd., effective July 2, 2024. Alberta Best Insurance is a property and casualty brokerage with locations in Beaumont and Leduc, Alberta, and the acquisition strengthens Westland’s expansion and market position in Alberta and across Canada.

SIB Corp. announced an investment and partnership with All-Risks Insurance Brokers Limited to expand SIB’s partner network and offerings in Ontario. All-Risks will continue to be led by its existing management team, and Paul and Kim Lemmon will remain shareholders following the transaction.

Axis Insurance Managers Inc., an independent specialty insurance brokerage headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, received a significant growth investment from funds managed by Lee Equity Partners. Founder and CEO Alex Meier retained a majority of his equity stake, with the investment intended to accelerate Axis Insurance’s long-term growth in the Canadian market.

SIB Corp., operating as StoneRidge Insurance Brokers (SIB), acquired Astro Insurance to expand its presence in Alberta. Astro Insurance, a full-service insurance brokerage and registry agent based in Lethbridge, Alberta, will continue to be led by Mark and Cindy Swartout following the acquisition.

Westland Insurance announced it acquired Canadian Special Risks Inc., effective June 1, 2024. Canadian Special Risks is a commercial insurance brokerage in Athabasca, Alberta specializing in commercial welding programs, and the acquisition supports Westland’s expansion in specialty commercial insurance across Western Canada.

Revau Advanced Underwriting Inc. (Revau) has acquired FBA Solutions to strengthen its market position and expand its product and service offering across Canada. FBA Solutions will continue operating as a separate company, with its leadership team—including President and Founder Diane Bélanger and Vice-President Pierre Guilbault—remaining in their roles. The deal represents Revau’s 7th add-on acquisition since partnering with private equity firm Novacap in 2020.

Axis Insurance Managers Inc. acquired The Magnes Group Inc., an independent insurance brokerage with offices in Oakville and North York, Ontario, and Longueuil, Quebec. Axis previously made an initial investment in Magnes in 2015, and Magnes will be integrated into Axis’ national brokerage platform and specialty practice groups.

Westland Insurance announced it acquired the Dupuis Langen Group, effective May 1, 2024. Dupuis Langen Group is a Richmond, British Columbia-based group benefits brokerage specializing in employee benefit solutions, particularly for community social services organizations and unionized employers. The deal expands Westland’s group benefits capabilities and strengthens its employee benefits offerings across Canada.

Hub International Limited acquired Zavitz Insurance and Wealth, Inc., an Ontario-based insurance and financial services firm. Zavitz provides group employee benefits, life and living benefits, and financial and retirement planning services, and its leadership and team will join Hub Ontario. Financial terms were not disclosed.

TA Associates has made a significant growth investment in AGA Benefit Solutions, a Canadian provider of group insurance and retirement plan development, administration, and related advisory/TPA/TPP services. As part of the transaction, Novacap is selling/transferring its ownership position (exiting its 2020 investment), while AGA’s management team remains in place and continues as major shareholders. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Hub International Limited acquired Mitchell Sandham Inc. and its subsidiary, Mitchell Sandham Group Benefits Inc., expanding its commercial and personal insurance and employee benefits capabilities in Ontario. Mitchell Sandham, an independently owned insurance brokerage based in Oakville, Ontario, will join Hub Ontario; financial terms were not disclosed.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., through its reinsurance division Gallagher Re, acquired Toronto, Ontario-based MGB Re. MGB provides medical-sector reinsurance solutions to HMOs, MGUs and insurance companies in the United States; transaction terms were not disclosed.

Aviva plc, through its subsidiary Aviva Canada, has completed the acquisition of Optiom O2 Holdings Inc (Optiom) for approximately £100 million (about CAD$170 million). The deal, announced in November 2023, expands Aviva Canada’s specialty lines business and distribution capabilities in the Canadian market and was acquired from Novacap Financial Services I.

SIB Corp., operating as StoneRidge Insurance Brokers (SIB), acquired Seymour Fair Insurance Brokers Inc., a full-service insurance brokerage operating in Ontario since 2008, as part of SIB’s expansion in Southern Ontario. Following the acquisition, Seymour Fair Insurance will continue to be led by its Principal Broker/Owner, David Fair. SIB is backed by CIVC Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm.

Hub International Limited (Hub) acquired the shares of 1510934 Alberta Ltd., doing business as The Musgrave Group, an employee benefits firm. The Musgrave Group, based in Canmore, Alberta, will join Hub Prairies and operate as “The Musgrave Group, a Hub International company.”

Hub International Limited acquired JRP Financial Services, Inc., an independent benefits brokerage firm based in Calgary, Alberta. JRP specializes in employee benefits, pension planning, and human resources, and its team will join Hub Prairies. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Amynta Group entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Sutton Special Risk Inc., a Toronto-based managing general underwriter of specialty accident and health insurance products. The deal expands Amynta’s accident and health capabilities and supports its growth plans in the Canadian market, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Westland Insurance announced a partnership with Prime Benefits Group Inc., an Ottawa, Ontario-based provider of employee benefits and retirement solutions. The partnership is intended to expand Westland’s group benefits practice in Ontario and strengthen its capabilities in the Canadian employee benefits market.

Hub International Limited acquired the assets of D'Onofrio Insurance Inc., an independent insurance firm providing commercial and personal insurance. D'Onofrio Insurance, based in Laval, Quebec, will join Hub Quebec and continue operating as D'Onofrio Insurance, a Hub International company; financial terms were not disclosed.

Hub International Limited acquired GJJK Inc., an insurance brokerage specializing in the cannabis industry. GJJK, based in Mississauga, Ontario, will bolster Hub’s Specialty practice and its cannabis-focused insurance capabilities; transaction terms were not disclosed.

Hub International Limited (Hub) has acquired Golden Ears Insurance Services Ltd., a general insurance broker based in Surrey, British Columbia. Golden Ears specializes in commercial transportation insurance, property coverage, and automobile fleet, strengthening Hub’s Specialty practice. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Westland Insurance acquired Andrew Agencies Ltd., expanding Westland’s footprint across Canada and extending its reach in Central Canada. Andrew Agencies, founded in 1913, operates 22 locations across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta and provides full-service insurance and financial services. Dowling Hales served as financial advisor to Andrew Agencies on the transaction.

Navacord Corp. announced a partnership with Medi-Quote Insurance Brokers, effective July 4, 2023. Medi-Quote, founded in 1994 with offices in Winnipeg and Calgary, specializes in travel and medical insurance and also serves individual health and dental coverage. The partnership expands Navacord’s presence in Manitoba and strengthens its capabilities in the travel insurance segment.

Westland Insurance Group, a Canadian independent insurance brokerage, acquired Sigurdson Financial Benefits Inc., effective July 1, 2023. The acquisition expands Westland’s reach across Canada and strengthens its employee benefits and financial planning-related insurance offerings. Sigurdson Financial Benefits Inc. is a long-standing benefits brokerage based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

NFP acquired Rhodes & Williams Limited, an independently owned property and casualty insurance brokerage specializing in commercial and personal risk lines. The deal expands NFP’s presence in Ontario (including Ottawa) and increases its P&C capabilities and scale across personal risk and commercial lines. The transaction closed on May 24, 2023.

Navacord Corp. announced the strategic acquisitions of RWAM Insurance Administrators Inc. (RWAM) and Programmed Insurance Brokers Inc. (PIB) to expand its insurance brokerage, third-party administration, and wealth management capabilities across Canada. RWAM strengthens Navacord’s group benefits TPA offering, while PIB adds multi-line insurance and financial services expertise, enhancing Navacord’s national reach and client service.

Westland Insurance announced it has acquired First Durham Insurance & Financial Ltd., effective May 1, 2023. The deal expands Westland’s presence in the Ontario market by adding the Pickering-based, full-service independent insurance brokerage serving personal, auto, farm, and commercial lines.

Westland Insurance Group announced three acquisitions effective April 1, adding Haggett & Rogers Group of Companies, BMT Insurance Brokers Limited, and Dimensions Insurance Management to its brokerage network across Canada. The deals expand Westland’s property & casualty (P&C) capabilities and deepen its presence in Ontario, Alberta, and Manitoba.

HUB Financial Inc., a subsidiary of HUB International, acquired BridgeForce Financial Group Inc. and a group of affiliated Ontario-based managing general agencies through an affiliate. The transaction brings together two large independent MGAs in Canada; financial terms were not disclosed.

Co-operators announced the acquisition of Assurances Oligny Inc., its sixth broker acquisition in Quebec since 2018, as part of its strategy to expand its agency and broker footprint in the province. Assurances Oligny serves more than 4,500 households with home, auto, and commercial insurance, and the transaction closed effective Jan. 12, 2023.

Co-operators Financial Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Co-operators Group Limited, entered into an arrangement agreement to acquire all issued and outstanding common shares of Smart Employee Benefits Inc. not already owned by Co-operators. The all-cash deal values SEB at approximately C$89.1 million (C$0.30 per share) and is expected to close in Q1 2023 subject to shareholder, court, and TSX Venture Exchange approvals.

Westland Insurance acquired Edmonton-based brokerage RiskTech Insurance Services, effective January 1, 2023. The acquisition strengthens Westland’s commercial insurance capabilities in Alberta, particularly for large and mid-market commercial clients and complex risk placements.

Westland Insurance acquired Gateway Insurance Group and Hutcheson, Reynolds & Caswell Insurance, with the transactions completed on December 1, 2022. The deals expand Westland’s property and casualty brokerage business and strengthen its presence in Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

SIB Corp., operating as StoneRidge Insurance Brokers (SIB), has acquired Safeway Insurance and Financial Services Inc. to expand its personal and commercial insurance presence in Ontario’s Greater Toronto Area. Safeway, founded in 1966, provides property & casualty insurance and financial products including life insurance and investment options.

Custard Companies announced it has acquired Toronto-based SIAdvisers Consulting & Solutions, Inc. to expand into the Canadian market. The transaction also includes SIAdvisers' subsidiary, Desktop Solutions, strengthening Custard’s insurance claims services across adjusting, TPA, and subrogation capabilities.

SIB Corp., operating as StoneRidge Insurance Brokers (a CIVC Partners portfolio company), acquired Deerborne Insurance Inc. to expand its personal and commercial insurance brokerage presence in the Greater Toronto Area. The acquisition adds a long-standing full-service brokerage to StoneRidge’s Ontario footprint as it continues pursuing additional partnerships and acquisitions across Canada.

Clairvest Group Inc., together with Clairvest Equity Partners VI, made a C$100 million minority equity investment to support the merger and recapitalization of Rogers Insurance and CapriCMW Insurance Services Ltd. Following the transaction, the combined company operates as Acera Insurance Services Ltd., an employee-controlled Canadian insurance brokerage.

SIB Corp. (StoneRidge Insurance Brokers), a portfolio company of CIVC Partners, has partnered with DeJong's Insurance Ltd. to expand its personal and commercial insurance offerings in Alberta. DeJong's is a privately owned Calgary-based insurance brokerage founded and operated by Tim DeJong and family since 1962.

Westland Insurance Group acquired Front Row Insurance Brokers Inc., a film and entertainment-focused insurance broker with eight offices across North America. The deal expands Westland’s Corporate Advisory & Specialty practice and marks Westland’s entry into the United States through Front Row’s U.S. operations. Dowling Hales served as financial advisor to Front Row Insurance Brokers.

Westland Insurance Group Ltd. acquired two Canadian insurance brokerages, Montridge Advisory Group and BST Insurance Brokers Ltd., effective September 1, 2022. Montridge strengthens Westland’s employee benefits consulting platform, while BST expands Westland’s property & casualty footprint with a first location in Pickering, Ontario.

At-Bay acquired Relay, a digital distribution marketplace and technology solutions provider for commercial specialty insurance placements with a focus on cyber. Relay will continue operating as an independent entity under its existing management team while complementing At-Bay’s digital distribution strategy for brokers and partners.

Hub International Limited, a global insurance brokerage and financial services firm, acquired Jaimac Risk Management Inc.; financial terms were not disclosed. Jaimac is an independent insurance brokerage in Ottawa, Ontario specializing in risk management and credit insurance, and its president Paul Turner and team will join Hub Ontario.

Westland Insurance Group announced the acquisition of The Winch Group Inc., an employee benefits consulting firm in Ontario. The Winch Group provides employee benefits brokerage and consulting as well as financial, estate, and retirement planning services. The deal expands Westland’s commercial offerings and strengthens its position as a leading full-service commercial brokerage in Canada.

SIB Corp., operating as StoneRidge Insurance Brokers, announced a partnership/investment in Knight Archer Insurance, a full-service insurance brokerage with offices across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta. As part of the transaction, Knight Archer’s CEO Tracy Archer will continue to lead Knight Archer and will also become President of SIB’s western Canadian operations as SIB expands its national footprint through partnerships and acquisitions.

Axis Insurance Managers completed the acquisition of BMG Aviation Ltd., doing business as BMG Insurance Brokers, effective June 1, 2022. BMG is a privately owned western Canadian insurance brokerage specializing in aviation and aerospace risks, and the combined business will operate under the Axis brand to strengthen Axis’s aviation and aerospace insurance practice nationally.

Westland Insurance Group acquired MCR Insurance (Aurora, Ontario) and Walter Roberts Insurance (Richmond Hill, Ontario). The acquisitions expand Westland’s commercial and personal insurance capabilities and deepen its footprint in Ontario as part of its broader national growth strategy across Canada.

SIB Corp., operating as StoneRidge Insurance Brokers (SIB), has acquired Generations Insurance Inc. to expand its personal and commercial insurance offerings in Ontario. Generations is a founder-owned, full-service insurance brokerage based in Scarborough, Ontario; SIB is a CIVC Partners-backed platform focused on growth across Canada.

SE2, an Eldridge business, announced the acquisition of Breathe Life, a Montreal-headquartered SaaS platform focused on new business distribution and digital engagement for the life insurance industry. The deal expands SE2’s end-to-end SaaS capabilities for insurance carriers and includes investment in product and data engineering in Montreal.

Hub International Limited (Hub), via its subsidiary Hub Financial Inc., acquired the assets of The President's Group Insurance Agency Inc. (The President's Group), a Toronto-based managing general agency focused on life insurance for Canadians. The transaction expands Hub Financial’s presence in Ontario; financial terms were not disclosed.

True Wind Capital made a significant growth investment in Sterling Capital Brokers, a Canadian tech-enabled employee benefits consulting firm with a proprietary platform for benefits plan management and HR/payroll integrations. Sterling’s leadership team, including co-founders Stefan Ionescu and David Haines and President John Griffin, will continue to lead the company from its headquarters in Toronto, Ontario. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Westland Insurance Group Ltd. acquired Campbell, Eldridge & Roy Insurance Services, a full-service insurance brokerage primarily located in Markham, Ontario. The deal expands Westland’s presence in Ontario and adds to its national scale as it continues to grow coast-to-coast across Canada.

AGA Benefit Solutions, in partnership with Novacap, has acquired J&D Benefits, a provider of customized employee benefit administration services. The deal expands AGA’s capabilities through J&D’s multi-employer plan platform and will support scaling J&D’s solutions across Canada, with J&D’s CEO Todd Rappitt joining AGA as a shareholder and Vice-President.

SIB Corp., operating as StoneRidge Insurance Brokers (a CIVC Partners portfolio company), acquired John Stark & Company to expand StoneRidge’s personal, commercial, and life insurance offerings. John Stark & Company is a family-owned full-service insurance brokerage founded in 1870 serving central and southern Ontario with offices in Barrie and Coldwater.

Westland Insurance Group Ltd. announced it has acquired two Canadian insurance brokerages: Church Eaton Insurance in Calgary, Alberta, and Hook Lafrance in Regina, Saskatchewan. The acquisitions expand Westland’s property and casualty distribution network and strengthen its commercial lines presence in the Prairie provinces.

SIB Corp., operating as StoneRidge Insurance Brokers (a CIVC Partners portfolio company), entered into a partnership with J.M. Johnson Insurance Agencies to expand StoneRidge’s presence into the Manitoba market. J.M. Johnson, founded in 1950 and based in Winnipeg, will continue to be led by its current President, Grant Johnson.

NFP acquired Foster Park Brokers Inc. (Foster Park), expanding NFP’s insurance brokerage presence in Western Canada. The transaction closed on November 1, 2021, and brings Foster Park’s four Western Canadian offices and 135 employees into NFP.

Hub International Limited acquired the assets of Rogersworks Inc., an independent employee benefits brokerage. Rogersworks is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and will bolster Hub’s employee benefits capabilities through Hub Coastal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Hub International Limited acquired H.W. Hollinger (Canada) Inc., an independent insurance agency based in Montreal, Quebec. H.W. Hollinger provides commercial and personal insurance and strengthens Hub Quebec’s specialty capabilities in areas including construction and real estate. Transaction terms were not disclosed.

StoneRidge Insurance Brokers (SIB), a portfolio company of CIVC Partners, entered into a partnership with Barber, Stewart, McVittie & Wallace Insurance Brokers (BSMW). The deal adds BSMW’s offices in Kingston and Markham, Ontario to SIB’s retail footprint and is described as SIB’s fifth partnership investment since CIVC’s 2019 investment in SIB.

Westland Insurance Group Ltd. acquired Tredd Insurance Brokers, which operates in Toronto, Ontario and Calgary, Alberta. The deal expands Westland’s commercial insurance platform and footprint in Ontario, adding Tredd’s expertise in transportation and energy.

Securian Canada, Inc., a subsidiary of Securian Financial Group, has acquired Armour Group Inc., a Canadian distributor of credit and specialty property and casualty products sold through auto and recreational vehicle dealers and finance companies. Armour Group, headquartered in London, Ontario, will continue to operate independently under its current leadership. The transaction closed on September 1, 2021, and financial terms were not disclosed.

McLarens, a global independent insurance services provider, acquired 100% of the equity of MGB Claims Consultants Inc., a Canadian complex commercial loss adjusting firm. Headquartered in Toronto (with staff in Calgary and Vancouver), MGB Claims will join McLarens’ North America claims and loss adjusting division while continuing to deliver services under the MGB brand during integration; financial terms were not disclosed.

The Canada Life Assurance Company, a subsidiary of Great-West Lifeco Inc., reached an agreement to acquire ClaimSecure Inc., a healthcare management firm providing health and dental claim management services across Canada. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2021. The acquisition expands Canada Life’s presence in third-party administrator and third-party payor markets and adds national pharmacy benefits manager capabilities.

Agile Underwriting Solutions acquired managing general agent Exhale Insurance, effective July 1, 2021. The deal adds Exhale’s digital technology capabilities and capacity to strengthen Agile’s position in the Canadian MGA market and expand product access for broker partners.

Hub International Limited (Hub) acquired Salvatore Insurance Brokers Ltd., a family-owned insurance agency based in Sackville, Nova Scotia, Canada. The deal expands Hub’s Atlantic Canada presence and strengthens its commercial insurance capabilities, particularly in transportation-focused commercial auto and fleet. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Hub International Limited (Hub) has acquired Global Credit Risk Management Inc. (GCRM), an independent broker specializing in accounts receivable and political risk insurance. The deal terms were not disclosed, and GCRM’s principals and team will join Hub Ontario to support Hub’s Specialty Practices, including Financial Institutions.

Hub International Limited announced it has acquired Wessex Financial Inc., an employee benefits and life benefits firm. Wessex Financial is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and the transaction terms were not disclosed.

Hub International Limited acquired Saskatchewan-based John Galon Insurance Services Ltd. and Galon Management Ltd. (Galon Insurance Brokers). The deal strengthens Hub’s specialty insurance capabilities in the Canadian Prairies region; financial terms were not disclosed.

Hub International Limited announced it has acquired the assets of Prince Albert Insurance Limited, a Saskatchewan-based independent insurance brokerage. Prince Albert Insurance provides personal, commercial, farm and specialty insurance products, strengthening Hub’s existing capabilities in the region. Transaction terms were not disclosed.

Hub International Limited announced it has acquired Seymour Alper Inc., an insurance and risk management firm. Seymour Alper, headquartered in Mount Royal, Quebec, will join Hub International Quebec Limited to strengthen Hub’s Specialty practices; financial terms were not disclosed.

HUB International Limited announced it has acquired Clearpoint Advisory Group Inc., Clearpoint Retirement Solutions Inc., and Canwest Group Benefits Inc. (collectively, Clearpoint). Clearpoint is a benefits and retirement consulting firm headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and its principals will join HUB International Canada West; financial terms were not disclosed.

Novacap has acquired an ownership interest in AGA Benefit Solutions, a Quebec-based provider of customized group insurance and retirement plan administration. The investment is intended to accelerate AGA’s growth across Canada and support future strategic acquisitions.
