Microsoft Acquires Israeli Cybersecurity Start-up Pelican Security

Microsoft has acquired Israeli start-up Pelican Security for $1 million in cash. Pelican's remaining seven employees (including CEO Gilad Golan) moved to Redmond, and Microsoft plans to integrate Pelican's web-protection software into its next-generation operating systems.

Under the deal, Pelican will acquire all outstanding shares of GSE for an estimated $4.10 per share (later amended to $4.60 per share), with the transaction initially expected to close in Q3 or Q4 2024. The merger was subsequently closed on November 1, 2024, following approval by GSE shareholders.

Altiris Acquires Pedestal Software for $65M

Altiris Inc. will acquire Newton, Massachusetts–based Pedestal Software for $65 million in cash and will assume Pedestal options. The acquisition expands Altiris's security and vulnerability-management capabilities, is expected to close by the end of the month and add roughly $17–18 million in revenue in fiscal 2005 as Altiris integrates Pedestal into its channels.
